West Wendover Elementary School (WWES) is located on the Nevada/Utah border in the Elko County School District. Both Wendover, Utah and Wendover, Nevada have an elementary school and a high school. There are 715 students and 55 staff members. WWES is one of two Reading First schools of the District’s 11 elementary schools.

• A large number of families in the area are considered to be lower socio-economic status.
• Almost 64 % of the students attending WWES are receiving free or reduced lunch.
• Approximately 65 % of the students attending WWES have limited proficiency in English.
• WWES third graders made an impressive gain of nearly 20% in Reading on the 2006 CRT exams.

Enrollment continues to steadily increase each year. There is anticipated growth of approximately 250 students within the next two years due to a sixth major casino to be completed in 2009. The majority of WWES parents are employed by area gaming establishments in the service industry (waiters, bus boys, van drivers, maids, etc.).
