Level I (online workshop)

Reading First Level I Academies:

The goal of the Level I Reading Academy is to develop an understanding of the vocabulary of early literacy addressed in the six early literacy components supported by Nevada Reading First: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary & spelling, comprehension, and writing.

Based on the materials and activities developed for the original Reading First Academy, it is now offered online only.  The "Virtual Reading Academy" is a blended design (combining face-to-face and online activities) structured around a cycle of team meetings, independent readings, and classroom practice/reflections.

The Virtual Academy is designed for teams. Each team is responsible for scheduling team meetings as long as the work is completed within an 8-week window.

Each eligible participant receives:

  • A Nevada Reading First Academy resource binder.
  • What Research Has To Say About Reading Instruction (Farstrup & Samuels, 2002).
  • The option of a $300 stipend or one in-service credit.
